Is it ok if my a/c unit is in the attic?

From an efficiency standpoint it would not be advisable to have your air conditioning unit in the attic. There are many reasons for this, such as, extreme heat in the summer here in Florida. The attics routinely exceed temperatures of 125° degrees. The units will operate better in a ‘controlled air space’ such as a utility room or closet in the house.

Condensation can leak from these units and cause water damage to ceilings. True we can install emergency drain pans and safety float switches but these can and do fail often.

Condensation can form on air handler units and parts which can provide a water source for pests. Once pests have found water they will make themselves at home in your house’s duct work and/or insulation.

We strongly recommend our customers to consider relocating their units when they are upgrading to a new system. Please contact us for a free estimate.
